The staffs of the University of Juba will hold on for a week and go on strike if their financial demands are not met, the Executive Director in the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Bek Dhuorjang Chol said.
The staffs are demanding payment of salaries in arrears for the last six months.
If by March 21st, the demands are not met, the staffs will lay down their tools, Chol told Juba Echo by phone.
The University officials will meet with President Salva Kiir on Wednesday over the salaries payment while waiting for the Ministry of Finance to settle the arrears, he said.
“Therefore, because of these two, and the efforts of the individuals mediating and the request by His Excellency the president to have a meeting with him is what the Dean’s Board have seen as genuine and then they have extended the suspension of lectures until Monday, 21st of this month,” Chol said.
“And that is what has prompted the meeting with the president tomorrow because the president wants to intervene to help solve the problem.”
