The United Nations, flanked by ambassadors from several countries visited Torit on Tuesday on a development mission in Eastern Equatoria State.

The joint High-Level Solidarity Mission of the UN Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General is to look into the Eastern Equatoria Development Priorities, as a one stop shop for projects implementation in the State.

The team was received by Governor Louis Lobong Lojore and senior state government officials.

“With the challenges here and there, Eastern Equatoria is ready for development,” told them in a briefing.

Lobong appealed to the UN and its partners to support the State government to bring peace through development.

UNDP Resident Representative, Dr. Samuel Doe, said the UN Family and their partners are ready to experiment with the development programs in Eastern Equatoria State.

The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General Sara Nyanti said they are in Torit with the mind and intent to bring all their expertise together to look at what is required to take the State forward.

In late 2021, the Government of Eastern Equatoria developed a Short-term Strategic Plan to spur development in the State.

Officials said the Strategic Development Plan will act as the principal guiding framework for the government and non-state actors in the transformation of Eastern Equatoria State.
