Capacity building attracts two-dozen scribes in Bor

A capacity building workshop which is underway in Bor, the capital of Jonglei State has attracted at least 27 jornalists.

The workshop, organized by the Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS ) is focusing on training journalists on “reporting on constitution-making process, safety and protection of journalists, role of media in advancing human rights, ethics and gender reporting.”

While opening the workshop on Tuesday, the Director General of the State Ministry of Information, Mohammad Chuol Peter appreciated UJOSS for the outreach program.

”I appreciate UJOSS for extending this important workshop to Journalists in Jonglei State,” Peter said.

Doreen Loboka who represented UNESCO, the funding agency for the workshop urged journalists to propagate peace through good writing.

“I urge all journalists across the country to use the knowledge acquired to promote peace and educate the public about the constitution–making,” Loboka said.

“I appeal to the state government to create simple mechanisms for easy access to information.”

UJOSS Secretary General, Majak Daniel Kuany called for the need for journalists to prioritize their profession for the development of the people.

“You should take journalism very seriously and be professional at all time,” Kuany said.

He revealed that elections will be held at the end of the workshop to get UJOSS coordinators in Jonglei.

Jonglei will be the third where UJOSS has held elections to get State coordinators.

Others were elections were held include Lakes and Eastern Equatoria states.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, UJOSS hailed UNESCO and other partners for their continuous support.

“UJOSS would like to thank UNESCO and the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) for the continuous support,” it said.
