UJOSS and CEPO in solidarity with communities affected by floods in South Sudan

The Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) in partnership with the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) are standing in solidarity with the people affected by floods in South Sudan.

UJOSS and CEPO will travel to Bentiu in Unity State in a one-day solidarity visit this month.

Unity State is one of the worst affected areas in the country.

According to UNOCHA in South Sudan, an estimated 426,000 people were affected and displaced by floods in the country since May 2021.

People in Jonglei and Unity states, as well as Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Upper Nile states have been the worst affected.

Assessments by aid agencies suggest that priority needs of the people include food assistance, emergency shelter and non-food items, water, sanitation and hygiene services and hygiene kits, health and nutrition supplies and services, protection services and dignity kits, and fishing kits for livelihood support.

Heavy rains, infrastructure damage and reduced physical accessibility, funding constraints and insecurity have however hampered the flood response.

UJOSS and CEPO will include media houses and journalists in the solidarity visit.

UJOSS and CEPO further informs journalists who still wish to contribute to the endeavor to take whatever they can provide to UJOSS Office at Customs Market Opposite Shalina Pharmacy or the CEPO Office at the Women’s Union Compound by or on Thursday September 23^rd.
