Turkey donates to orphans in Juba

The Turkish government on Friday donated food and non-food items to orphans living at Divine Mercy Orphanage in Gurei, a suburb of Juba.

The donation was sent to South from Turkish Red Crescent, the  items handed over to the orphanage includes;maize flour, cooking oil, lentils, and non-food items including shoes, footballs, and toys.

Divine Mercy Orphanage Center hosts almost 100 children.

Erdem Mutaf, Turkish Ambassador to South Sudan said the donation was to celebrate April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children’s Day with South Sudanese orphans.

 “Children are our future and our hope, we have to invest in them. Today is a very important day in Turkey and I am happy to Mark it with South Sudanese children together with their Turkish friends,” said Mutaf during the handover ceremony.

He promised that a Turkish organization would open a school to provide education for orphans in South Sudan.

Father Paulino Tipo Deng, Founder of Divine Mercy Orphanage Center appreciated the Turkish government’s support to the center.

He said that many South Sudanese children are suffering due to years of conflict in the country.

Deng added that the donation received from Turkey would help them a lot because the center has been facing several challenges and that this support from Turkey will solve some of the problems.

He further said that the orphans have been surviving on donation from friends and well-wishers.

Mutaf disclosed that the Turkish Embassy remains open to all South Sudanese, adding that Turkey will continue supporting South Sudanese people.
