By Chondok Stephen Magei

A teenager has beaten her uncle’s wife to death after a disagreement on who should collect food distribution provided by aid organizations.

The deceased, a 24-year-old breastfeeding mother had been having unending confrontations with the 17-year-old girl on who was responsible for collecting the distributions at the Internally Displaced People’s camp in Bentiu.

According to Capt. Gatpan Chan Malual of the Joint Police Force stationed at the eastern gate of Bentiu IDP camp, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening.

The teenager was taken to police custody to help with investigation, Malual said.

“According to the investigation we did, the murderer and the deceased are relatives, we are waiting for the deceased’s husband who is an uncle to the girl who murdered the woman,” he said.

“I have talked to him and he said that the lady has no intention of killing his wife as they are all relatives.”

The suspect admitted the crime but said she had no intention of killing.

“I had no intention of killing my uncle’s wife, but I was just defending myself and I knocked her throat by mistake,” she said.

“The decease slapped me twice until I fell. Police arrested me because I have killed my relative.” According to the chairman of Bentiu IDP camp, Thaya Wicyoak Leay, the case will be handled amicably.

“They are all relatives, and they understood the situation, there will be no revenge attack,” Leay said.
