South Sudan to pay three-month Juba University staff salary

The government has agreed to pay salary arrears for three months to staffs of the University of Juba.

The staffs are demanding for at least six months in unpaid salaries.

The Head of International and Public Relations Office at the University of Juba, Professor Milton Malingasuk told Juba Echo by phone that the agreement was made by the Ministry of Finance.

“We got the information yesterday (Monday) that they will pay the three-month arrears but they have not talked about the other remaining months,” Professor Malingasuk said.

“This is just the old money that was not paid in 2021 mostly. I think there is one for 2020-2021 and now we are in 2022,” he said.

The arrears will be paid using the old salary structure because new structures haven’t been agreed upon, Professor Malingasuk said.

“So, a bird in hand is worth holding but still we have not seen the money though they have put it in the process,” Malingasuk said.

Two weeks ago, the University of Juba Deans Board threatened to lay down their tools if the six months salary arrears are not paid. The university officials also resolved that their salary arrears be paid using the new salary structure which was agreed to by President Salva Kiir.
