South Sudan Proposes New Fiscal Year Budget Of $1.7Bn

South Sudan has proposed a $1.7 billion budget for the 2021/2022 fiscal year.

The Minister of Finance and Planning Athian Diing Athian presented an equivalent in the local currency of 551 billion South Sudanese pounds (SSP) before the Council of Ministers on Friday.

“The finance minister presented the memo on the fiscal year 2021/2022 and the cabinet discussed the part of the budget and there are some concerns on it, so the cabinet decided to recommend the budget discussion to another day which will be Wednesday next week,” The Deputy Minister of Information Baba Medan told journalists after the cabinet meeting in Juba.

He revealed that cabinet agreed to have more time period to discuss details of the proposed budget next week.

 “This is a national budget we have to focus on the concerns, you are aware of the economic situation in the country and we want to see the interest of the people,” said Medan.

Medan revealed that they didn’t pass the draft budget because they want more time to delve into it’s details and later on discuss them.
