South Sudan president sacks head of state oil company

By Okech Francis

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit sacked the managing director of Nile Petroleum Corporation, the country’s oil entity.

Eng. Bol Ring Mourwel who was appointed in September 2020 was removed in a decree read on the state broadcaster, South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation, on Thursday.

No reasons were given for Kiir’s decision and as well no replacement was announced.

Mourwel welcomed his dismissal, noting that change is normal and would remain committed to the leadership of Kiir.

“Change is normal and should be accepted,” he said in a statement.

“I would like to assure you that I remain loyal to your leadership and ready to work with you any time you want me.”

NILEPET is the technical, operational arm commercial arm of the Ministry of Petroleum in South Sudan.

It was created to build the national technical capabilities of the country in the oil sector and maximise profit for the government.

It’s one of the entities blamed for massive corruption in South Sudan.
