South Sudan Minister says large government complicates peace implementation

South Sudan has a huge government implementing peace and slowing processes like the security arrangements through disagreements, Martin Elia Lomuro, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs said.

Lomuro said the various parties that make up the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) often fail to compromise on these critical things leading to stalemate.

“The agreement has a total of 44 parties and this bloated composition of parties to the agreement is marred by intra- group disagreements that has immensely contributed to the delay in the implementation process particularly with regard to the government and institutional structures,” he said while addressing members of the Revitalized Joint Monitoring Evaluation Commission at Palm Africa Hotel in Juba on Thursday.                                               

Lomuro said the agreement itelf is intertwined with a lot of activities to be carried out noting that the parties spent one year and half implementing the pre-transitional period activities and another one year and 7 months was spent on implementing transitional period provisions.                               

“The agreement has been compounded with large number of activities that need to be implemented,” he said.
