South Sudan, DRC discuss bilateral relations

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir and President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Antoine Tshisekedi held on Sunday intensive bilateral talks that tackled means to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.

During a press conference after their meeting in Juba, Kiir said he also touched on trade and security between the borders of South Sudan and DRC.

“I am pleased to inform you that President Tshisekedi and I met and discussed a wide range of issues covering both bilateral and multilateral ties. We have talked mostly about the trade and security at our borders,” Kiir said.

“Since we became independent, nobody has ever come to visit us from the DRC. This man has set a record as the first President of Congo to come to us,” he added.

Tshisekedi whose country joined the East Africa Community bloc said they discussed various areas of cooperation which include infrastructure.

 “In projects, we discussed this project of infrastructure, especially the construction of roads from South Sudan to the DRC that will go through the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo,” he said.
