By Kabaka Quintous Leone

Religious Leaders from the Episcopal church of South Sudan at St Paul cathedral diocese of Torit Anglican Communion in Eastern Equatoria State are calling on political leaders in the country to prioritize embarking on the journey of conveying peace messages to the citizens.

The call was made during the Easter mass on Sunday during the installation of a new canon,

Speaking during the event, the archbishop of internal province of Eastern Equatoria State, Bishop Ogeno Charles Opoka, called on the civil population and political leaders to hold on to the peace deal implementation as the only way out of the current challenges the country faces.

“But my advice as a church leader is that let the resurrection of Jesus Christ be in your mind and hearts, let it bring change into your lives. Whatsoever we need in South Sudan is peace, we need peace in South Sudan. Which means we as a Christian Country, when celebrating this day, peace should be in our minds.” Said Bishop Ogeno.

Bishop Opoka appeals to the political parties to the 2018 peace pact to bring peace.

“Am requesting our President, vice presidents, ministers and all the governors of South Sudan to try bringing peace, preach the message of peace to all.” He added

The Religious leader further urged the citizens to desist from revenge killings, cattle raiding and road ambushes

The newly installed canon of St Paul cathedral Diocese of Torit, Canon Robert mamur says church leaders of South Sudan need to work tirelessly in preaching togetherness through the gospel of Jesus.

“We as South Sudanese have to remain together, these are our beliefs and prayer as Christians and today we have installed women to be strong vessels of carrying the message of Peace to the world because without women, men alone cannot work.” Said Canon Mamur

In the church leadership for Anglican Communion, is given to the one who has experience in the church and the community for peace.
