President Salva Kiir has instituted a committee to investigate violence in Abyei region which has claimed the lives of at least 10 people.

About 50,000 people have been displaced by the conflict in Aneet area which pitted the communities of Twic Mayardit against the Ngok Dinka of Abyei.

An MSF staff was killed in the violence.

The committee will be led by Vice President for Service Cluster, Huessien Abdelbagi Akol and deputized by Unity State Governor Joseph Nguen Monytuil, with seven other members, according to an order read on State television, SSBC on Thursday evening.

Gunmen from Twic Mayardit stormed Aneet this month and also torched homes and shops.

The displaced are currently sheltering in open areas in Turalei, Mayen Abun, Aweng and Yin Deng Ayuel, among other places.

The deadly clash has forced two humanitarian agencies to temporarily suspend operations in the area.
