Capt. Guot Akol, the State Police spokesperson confirmed the incident to Juba Echo, saying that a 30 -year-old man identified as “Aguer” was found dead on Tuesday morning in the cell.

“The incident happened on Monday night. But in the meantime, let us give police a chance to investigate these crimes and see who is involved and what was the nature of his death,” he said in an interview.

Reliable sources said that the deceased was a bus conductor who used to work between South Sudan and Sudan, before he returned to Aweil Town on Monday at the late hours.

Primary investigations show that he later booked a hotel in War-awar market, where he put his luggage in and went for clubbing.

“When he came back, he found the hotel closed and they didn’t open the gate for him because it was late, so he tried to jump over the fence and he was arrested by the military police personal and taken to custody,” the police official narrated.

But in the morning, he was found dead, however, the case has been opened as the police investigates on what happened.

“The police full investigations would diagnose what are the reasons behind his death and especially if there is a connection linked to allegation that he has been tortured until he died, then it will be found” Akol said.

According to sources in Aweil, the deceased was taken in at midnight while bleeding before he later passed on.

The Police official appealed to the deceased’s family of the deceased and general public to be patient and refrain from speculations.

According to him, the investigation will confirm how the incident happened and that the people involved would be made accountable.
