Over 900 South Sudanese Medics vaccinated against COVID-19

The National Ministry of Health says about 947 health workers have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine since the vaccination program was officially launched on April 6.

The Manager for Expanded Program on Immunisation in The Ministry of Health, George Auzenio Legge said the data on the vaccination have been collected from three vaccination centers, which are Juba Teaching Hospital, Giada Military Hospital, and Buluk Police Hospital, all within Juba City Council.

“By Saturday last week, we had vaccinated 947 health workers, we didn’t work on Sunday, and data for Monday is yet to be entered into the system”  Legge Told Juba Echo over the Phone on Tuesday.

He said the Health Ministry is targeting vaccination of about 4000 health workers from both the private and government facilities.

The frontline health workers combatting the coronavirus were selected to be the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccines in South Sudan.

The Health Ministry says the next group to be vaccinated would be persons above 65 years of age and those with underlying medical complications.

South Sudan has so far reported 10,387 infections and 114 deaths due to COVID-19.
