More than one thousand households in Kworijik village, Central Equatoria State have received food assistance from The Turkish Red Crescent on Wednesday.
The distribution drive was carried out in collaboration with South Sudan’s Red Cross.
Turkish Ambassador to South Sudan, Erdem Mutaf said his government would continue supporting vulnerable people in South Sudan.
“Today we came to this village some 20 km from the capital Juba to give a helping hand to the people who are here, our organizations are helping vulnerable people in South Sudan, and I am grateful to meet with these vulnerable communities and help them”
The food was distributed to the displaced people who are victims of a recent fighting among the people of Terekeka County.
The food packages contain maize flour, sugar, rice, lentils, beans, powdered milk, tea bag among others.
Turkish Red Crescent says about 6000 people will benefit from the food assistance.
“Turkish donation since during the holy month of Ramadan reach nearly 100 metric tons of food and we will continue donating and helping South Sudanese communities wherever there is need,” Said Ambassador Erdem Mutaf.
South Sudan’s Red Cross says it will continue to work closely with Turkish Red Crescent to try and help more vulnerable people in the East African nation.
“On behalf of South Sudan Red cross we appreciated the Turkish support to these vulnerable communities who have been displaced by recent internal conflict in the area”, Joseph Lokak head of South Sudan’s Red cross Juba office said.
One of the beneficiaries Mary Akur says the displaced are entirely dependent on food aid, “We welcome everybody who come to support us with anything they have.” Said Mary.
Another beneficiary, James Ladu said the displaced have been forced out of their land and there is very little economic activity that they can carry out to support their families.
