Management of Juba Teaching Hospital appeals for support from public

Authorities at Juba Teaching Hospital are calling for support from the public saying relatives and friends of majority of patients admitted in the hospital have abandoned the patients.

The Medical Director of Juba Teaching Hospital, Dr. Maker Isaac, has revealed that some of the patients admitted in the hospital, especially those suffering with Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/Aids have not been receiving support from their relatives and friends adding that the patients lack food.

“There is no good feeding for those patients with HIV/AIDS, most of them are poor people and some came from the states and they don’t have relatives in Juba who can take care of them. I used to give them little money from the hospital to help them buy some food,” Dr. Maker told Juba Echo on Thursday after receiving items donated to the hospital by the “Future Generation Group.” A South Sudanese non governmental organisation.

“We don’t have money to run the hospital, we don’t have food, those who are willing to support us are welcome,” said Dr. Maker.

Abraham Jima, who spoke on behalf of Future Generation Group said that they donated items to the hospital to show solidarity with the management and patients at the facility.

“These are our people we have to help them, we have decided to come to the hospital and give them what we have to help those who are in critical conditions and nobody is taking care of them.”

Said Jima. He disclosed that the assortments handed over to management of the hospital included, mosquito nets, juice and sugar.

Jima added that they would continue to support patients in critical need admitted in the main -referral hospital. Some of the patients in the hospital, who spoke to Juba Echo on condition of anonymity, decried the worsening conditions they are living in at the hospital.

They said they lack food, water and mosquito nets.
