Kampala University College students – Juba Study Center to graduate after delay due to coronavirus crisis

Students in graduation classes of 2020 and 2021 at Kampala University – Juba Study Center are set to graduate on 28th and 29th April this year amid COVID-19 issues.

The graduation events on Thursday and Friday this week will see over five hundred South Sudanese awarded Undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in various courses.

This is the second batch of students to graduate from Kampala University College Juba Study Center since its establishment.

The school principal, Kalema Faizo says the students from Juba Study Center (especially those who could not travel) will attend the three-hour graduation event virtually via live telecast.

“We are having from the Juba Campus 466 Undergraduates and 39 postgraduates. To inform the public, it is going to be a virtual graduation, there are those who have gone to Kampala and those who cannot afford so they will be having a live telecast here. It is going to be broadcasted live on Bukkede TV of Uganda of which those having DSTV can access it for three hours starting 9AM to Midday,” Kalema Faizo said

He attributed the delay in graduation to the coronavirus crisis.

“The graduation has taken long because we have been going COVID-19 issues. If it wasn’t the coronavirus crisis, some of them were supposed to graduate last year. Those who were supposed to graduate in 2020 will graduate on 28th April while those of 2021 will graduate on 29th April so we are having two graduation ceremonies,” Faizo added

When asked why the students had to pay over one million Ugandan Shillings clearance fees, he said “The issue is not about the certificate, that was the payment. When it comes to our students here (at Juba Study Center), they are getting same documents like their other colleagues in Uganda are getting. When you go to Kampala, the students there are paying more than US Dollars 300, here, they’re paying $150 per semester.”

He congratulated all students upon their successful completion of studies and wished them the best in life.

The aspiring graduands are in full preparation with several taking to social media to celebrate this life event in advance.
