Journalists of South Sudan to launch football club

The Union of Journalists of South Sudan plans to launch a football club that will participate in games at the national and international levels, the Union’s President, Oyet Patrick Charles said.

This bid comes as a result of continues invitations by organisations and companies to play games with the union.

“We plan to have this football club in order to be part of the sporting world in this country, to unite with other partners and the communities as we all advocate for peace,” Charles told Juba Echo in an interview on Friday.

The plan is still at the initial stage. The club’s name and players are yet to be worked out.

The Union of Journalists of South Sudan are also set to play with the South Sudan Red Cross on Monday to raise vital blood for people in need.

The President of South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) Gen. Augustino Madut, flanked by Oyet visited journalists partaking in training on Thursday at Buluk playground in Juba ahead of that game.

“I am happy to see you journalists having a football team and my office will support this team. Most importantly, I urge you to work together, as football is the only thing that brings people together,” Madut told the scribes.

He also encouraged them to accurately report on sports activities in the country.

For his part, UJOSS President Charles thanked the South Sudan Football Association for allowing journalists to practice at the Buluk Football pitch.

“I want to thank the South Sudan Football Association for the cooperation and allowing our journalists to do practice. We appreciate you a lot, and we shall continue to work together,” Charles said.
