The Jonglei state government has released the emoluments of civil servants after a protest over unpaid salaries and allowances, Veronica William Deng, the State Minister for Information said.
“The government has implemented paying its civil servants, the workers started receiving their salaries on Friday last week, the salaries will not be touched, it is their money, it must be given to them 100 percent,” Deng told Juba Echo by phone.
“The meeting between Joseph Bangasi Bakasoro, the national minister of public services and the jonglei state authorities has succeeded,” she said.
“It has resolve key challenges, we have agreed that the salaries for the workers coming from Juba cannot be deducted.”
On February 9, the workers union in Jonglei state staged a protest demanding the government to return what they called withdrawn allowance by Jonglei state governor, Denay Chagor who issued an order diverting their allowances to the state security sector.
The state public service employees also demanded full payment of their October salary together with what they term as general allowance.
Their demands were in line with the 100 percent salary increment ordered in July last year by President Kiir.
