A weekend clash between two clans in South Sudan’s Upper Nile State left 32 people dead, an official said.
The clash on Friday in Ulang County also left 57 other people injured, Luka Saadallah, Upper Nile State Information Minister said by phone May 31.
The injured are receiving treatment at Ulang hospital, Saadallah said.
“According to the information I have got is that the two clans clashed, 17 people were killed in one clan and another 15 in the rival clan so the number of people killed is 32,” Saadallah said.
He attributed the fighting to lack of a local government structure on the ground, noting also lack of government forces present in the area.
The situation has returned to normal despite lack of law enforcers, Saadallah said.
