By Staff Writer, Juba

One community based organization in South Sudan is shaping information dissemination in the country. Known as Defy Hate Now, the organization created “#211check” which collects information over the internet, verifies, corrects misinformation and publishes them over the internet.

Nelson Kwaje, is the programme Director for Defy Hate Now Organization, his group is targeting all those who use social media in South Sudan.

He says that’s because most of the misinformation is over the internet.
Nelson is part of a WhatsApp group which has more than 120 people.”The WhatsApp group receives daily misinformation that is spreading around and we take that information, we verify and then we publish that on the various social media platform, telling people this is not the case. Said Nelson.

One such piece of information that has been common over social media encourages people to log on site, talking about Toyota Company’s celebration.

The group has done a research on the site.

#211 advises the public to alway be cautious of sites that tend to promise rewards.
