Greater Pibor declares crackdown on perpetrators of violence that left 32 dead

Authorities in Greater Pibor Administrative Area have declared a crackdown on youths who attacked Baidit Payam in Jonglei’s Bor county last weekend killing at least 32 people.

The attackers were reportedly cattle raiders from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.

Among the people killed were three children and three women.

The children drowned while trying to escape the violence.

“Our administration will do what it takes to crackdown those culprits who committed those heinous crimes against the innocent people,” John Joseph Abulla, the Deputy Administrator of Greater Pibor said in a statement.

“The GPAA leadership is working hard to trace the location of the criminals so that the security forces can be dispatched to the area to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to book,” Abulla said.

The attack which occurred on Sunday also left many people injured and many more others displaced.

UN agencies including the United Nations Mission in South Sudan and the United Nations Children’s Fund condemned it and urged the government to swiftly act to ensure accountability and restoration of security.

Abulla said his government also condemned the action and as well sent condolences to the bereaved families.

“The authority will not tolerate the killing of innocent [people] by the youths to go without being accounted for, and it needs our collective effort to fight this war together to bring this evil act to an end for the betterment of the communities of sisterly States,” he said.
