Embattled cashier at South Sudan’s oil company denies any wrongdoing

A cashier at South Sudan’s Nile Petroleum Corporation (Nilepet), Ring Charles Mayen has said accusation against him of misusing money at the national oil company are false.

“That is fake news from those who are looking for changes in Nilepet.” Said Ring Charles when contacted by Juba Echo about the allegations leveled against him for misusing money at Nilepet.

The senior cashier , Ring Charles Mayen is accused of pocketing money meant for staff dressing allowances. Nilepet staff say, the entity allocates allowances for staff clothing every year but it has now emerged that money does not reach the staff and instead ends in Ring Charles’ pockets and his close associates in the corporation.
Multiple sources at Nilepet have threatened to down their tools starting this week in protest of what they term as far-reaching abuses by Ring Charles.

Asked why they (the staff) don’t want to follow an administrative procedure to get their grievances addressed, majority of the staff that talked to Juba Echo say they don’t think they will get Justice from the administration because according to them, the cashier is a relative to the Managing Director of Nilepet.

Ring however says, he doesn’t make decisions on who should or should not be paid or what allowances should be paid or not.

“The salary are not prepared by Cashier, my work is only to pay out the salary.” Said Ring.

Nile Petroleum Corporation is South Sudan’s national oil company that partners with other national and international oil companies operating in the country.

some of the national oil companies Nilepet partners with are China’s National Petroleum Corporation (CNCP), Malaysia’s Petronas, Oil and Natural Gass of India among others.

Nilepet is one of the major revenue generating entities of South Sudan’s government.
