COVID-19 vaccination starts on June 12 in South Sudan’s Warrap State

COVID-19 vaccination will commence next week, Saturday, June 12 in Warrap State of South Sudan, according to a government official. 

This came few days after the state received 6,800 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines from the national Ministry of Health in Juba on June 3rd.

Ring Deng Ading, Warrap State Minister of Information and Communication  said in a statement seen by Juba Echo that the vaccine will be administered in Kuajok hospital, Mother Therese hospital, Marial-Lou hospital and Tonj civil hospital next week with healthcare workers as first priority. 

“The vaccination will start on Saturday 12 June and the areas of vaccination will be Kuajok Hospital, Mother Teresa Hospital in Tur-Alei,  Tonj Hospital, and Marial Lou Hospital, and the vaccination will start with health workers and then to those above eighteen years old,” Deng said on Thursday in a press statement.

Ading urged all health workers and those above 18 years to turn up for vaccination at mentioned health facilities. 

“Coronavirus is real, so let’s keep Warrap State safe and always remember to also keep the precautionary measures,”   he said.

According to the National Health Ministry, the country aims to vaccinate 2.4 million people out of the country’s estimated population of 12 million.

On March 25, the country received 132,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX facility.              

The vaccines, according to health officials will expire on July 18th.

On April 6, the country launched its vaccination campaign against COVID-19 in the capital Juba.
