Central Equatoria State governor urges new parliament to enact good land laws

The governor of Central Equatoria, Emmanuel Adil Anthony has urged the new State transitional parliament to enact sound legislations to regulate land acquisition.

The August House should constitute a standing specialized committee on land to enact laws for regulating the land acquisition across the state, Anthony said in a statement issued in Juba.

“I am particularly drawing your attention to large scale illegal land acquisitions and use,” he said.

“There is a huge threat of land malpractices looming throughout our state and especially in the Juba city and Juba county.”

Anthony warned that continuous and rampant cases of land grabbing perpetrated by some unruly and lawless individuals are rampant, particularly in Juba County and Juba City.

“The threat is all about land grabbing as intensified by perpetrators who grab land from disadvantaged people for personal business or commercial purposes, hence it has contributed to insecurity,” he said.

“I urge this August house to constitute a standing specialized committee on land comprising of members who are well-versed in land issues so that the house enacts sound legislations to regulate the land acquisition and use to meet aspirations of our people.”
