Central Equatoria State government on Monday banned illegal logging in Kajokeji County.
Andruga Sevario Mabe, the Minister of information in Central Equatoria State urged community leaders in Kajokeji County to talk to landlords in order to enforce the directive.
“The Council of Ministers has called for reconstitution of a committee, so that members return to Kajokeji with some additional mandates to effect the work on issues related to logging,” he told journalists in Juba.
Mabe said that the ad-hoc ministerial committee on logging has been approved by the council of ministers to effect the directive banning illegal logging.
He said that regulating logging business in Kajokeji County is quiet challenging, due to the power and connection of those involved in the business.
“The county administration organized joint meeting with the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-in opposition (SPLA-IO) in Kajokeji with the help of the current ministerial committee, additional forces are to be added to the command in Kajokeji because issues of logging is complex,” disclosed Mabe.
Gerald Francis, the Minister for Peace Building in Central Equatoria State, said they are working on key policy framework, and legislation to regulate logging that puts peace into consideration.
