South Sudan’s IGP vows to apprehend gunmen who shot Bishop

South Sudan’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen. Majak Akec Malok has promised that the police will get those behind the recent shooting of Christian Carlassare the Bishop of Rumbek Dioces.
General Akec visited the scene of the shooting in Rumbek on Wednesday.

Bishop Carlassare was attacked on Sunday by armed assailants who shot him in the leg.

The Bishop is currently receiving treatment in Nairobi hospital.
“We condemn this attack on the Bishop, the security forces and the government are optimistic of protecting all people in this country.” Said General Akec.
The IGP added that the attack on the prelate has tarnished the image of Lakes State and South Sudan as a whole.
He added that the ongoing voluntary disarmament exercise will continue to ensure guns are collected from the civil population.
Makur Kulang Liei, Governor of Lakes state said that his government is working with a high-level security delegation dispatched from Juba to carry out a comprehensive investigate into the shooting of the Bishop.
The Governor also revealed that security organs are investigating the recent killing of two women in Akot area of Rumbek East County.

Two lactating mothers were shot dead by yet to be identified gun men on Tuesday this week.

There have been surge in violence in Lakes State in the past two weeks.
