The National and the Central Equatoria State Ministry of Animal Resources, Fisheries and Tourism have launched a major animal vaccination campaign to rid the country of myriad livestock diseases.
In the event attended by both the National Minister Hon. Onyoti Adigo Nyikech and his state line ministry counterpart Hon. Alex Lotiyu graced the colourful event held at Dejini cattle camp in Juba.
The event held in partnership with UN Food Agricultural Organization (FAO) was also attended by guests from EU, UK and Norway.
In his speech, Minister Onyoti appealed to development partners to support timely vaccination of livestock. This he said should be guided by a vaccination calendar.
“There should be provisional mobile clinic and mobile education to help children in cattle camps” Onyoti said.
His state counterpart, Hon. Lotiyu said,” Vaccination alone is not enough if not supported by treatment. Mobile education is necessary”.
He emphasized the need for co-existence amongst communities for purposes of peace and tranquillity. Minister Lotiyu also rooted for creation of zero grazing areas to avoid conflict and speared of diseases across the country.
Minister Lotiyu said the vaccination exercise targets 430,000 livestock in the state and target a further 80 community livestock health workers in the state.
