South Sudan’s Health Minister suspends undersecretary

By Richard Sultan

South Sudan’s Health Minister Elizabeth Acuai Yol has suspended the ministry’s undersecretary Dr. Victoria Anib Majur over what she termed as indiscipline.

Differences emerged between the health minister and the undersecretary after South Sudan’s Vice President Hussein Abdelbagi directed Dr. Victoria to reassign a number of Directors and Director Generals in the Health Ministry, which she did without the knowledge and consent of the minister.

The Minister then cancelled the reassignment of the Directors and the Director Generals.

Vice President, Hussein Abdelbagi heads the South Sudan’s COVID-19 task force, that task force comprises a number of staff of the health ministry.

The minister has now appointed Dr. Samson Paul Baba to serve as Acting Undersecretary for the Health Ministry.

She also directed for formation of a disciplinary board to investigate Dr. Victoria’s activities at the ministry and report to the minister within ninety days.
