12 killed during cattle raid over the weekend in Gogrial East

At least 12 people were shot dead and 21 others wounded during cattle raid on Saturday in Gogrial East of Warrap State.

Peter Ayom Bul, Gogrial East County Commissioner revealed that the raiders from Bul Nuer community also looted 1,300 heads of cattle in Apuk village.

“I send my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, we pray and hope they find strengths during this trying times,” Ayom told Juba Echo by phone on Monday.

He disclosed that houses were torched by the armed attackers leaving more than 300 families displaced.

 “This is not the first time for Bul youth under influence of Bul community based militias to attack armless civilians of Gogrial East County,” he said.

Ayom revealed a similar attack in Apuk area occurred on April 3rd this year, particularly in Mayen-Jur area that left 32 people dead and scores wounded.

He said that they are demanding the return of the stolen cattle to their rightful owners.

Warrap state has since last year, been experiencing violence in the form of cattle raids and revenge killings among it’s communities.
